Omotoso appear in court in East London Court following his second arrest by the Department of Home Affairs’ Immigration Inspectorate. His arrest comes after Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber rejected Omotoso’s appeal to overturn a previous decision that declared him a prohibited person under South Africa’s Immigration Act.

The self-proclaimed pastor has been the subject of legal scrutiny for years. His immigration violation now adds to his controversial public profile. He has been accused of vaious crimes such as sexual assault and threating the victims. Protesters, some holding placards reading “Deport Now,” have accused authorities of moving too slowly on the matter and for being corrupt officials.

Law enforcement and home affairs officials are yet to comment on the allegations.
