The latest advancements in broadcasting, audiovisual technology and media production took center stage at MediaTech Africa 2026, held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre in Midrand on Thursday, 2 July. The event brought together broadcasters, technology companies, engineers, content creators, students and media professionals to explore innovations shaping the future of the industry.

MediaTech Africa serves as one of the country’s leading exhibitions for the broadcast and professional audiovisual sector, providing a platform for exhibitors to showcase new products while industry experts share knowledge through presentations and live demonstrations.

Throughout the day, visitors attended sessions covering a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence in broadcasting, remote production technologies, lighting innovations, immersive audio and the challenges of reality television production.

One of the day’s most attended presentations, “What Reality TV Taught Us About Chaos,” was delivered by Marius van Straaten and Tom van Greuning from Visual Impact Broadcast Solutions. Drawing from their experience on international productions such as Survivor, the pair explained how meticulous planning, teamwork and technical expertise enable productions to succeed in some of the world’s most demanding environments.

They shared real-life stories of transporting more than two tonnes of broadcast equipment to Samoa, recovering after lightning destroyed production cameras and delivering live broadcasts under strict international deadlines. Their message highlighted that successful television production depends as much on preparation and problem-solving as it does on creativity.

The exhibition floor also featured companies introducing the latest audiovisual solutions for businesses and educational institutions.

Among the exhibitors was Justin Cooke, Chief Executive Officer of Interactive AV Solutions (IAS). Cooke showcased the company’s range of Clevertouch interactive displays, collaborative meeting technologies and smart educational solutions designed to improve communication in classrooms and corporate environments.

According to Cooke, interactive technology is transforming the way organisations collaborate by making meetings, presentations and learning more engaging and efficient. He said businesses and educational institutions are increasingly adopting intelligent audiovisual solutions to support hybrid working and digital learning environments.

MediaTech Africa also created valuable networking opportunities, allowing attendees to engage directly with manufacturers, distributors, engineers and industry leaders while gaining insight into emerging technologies.

The event demonstrated how rapidly the media and broadcasting landscape is evolving, with artificial intelligence, interactive technology and advanced production techniques becoming increasingly important across the industry. For aspiring broadcasters, journalists and content creators, MediaTech Africa provided an opportunity not only to experience the latest innovations firsthand but also to learn from professionals whose work continues to shape the future of broadcasting in South Africa and beyond.
